Rin here. This is a crime story that doesn't blink. A reckless, hard-living troublemaker finds himself tangled with a mafia that wants the same rare experiments he does, and the plot quickly widens to pull in more factions and more ruthless people. The energy is relentless. The action is the highlight. Shirow Miwa's style gives the fights a kinetic, stylish feel, and the ensemble is full of memorable personalities. Every character seems to have an agenda of their own, and the story respects that. The underworld is drawn with grime and menace. The downside is the violence. It is frequent and often brutal, and that will not be for everyone. The plot is dense, and newer readers may need to keep notes to track who is who and why. It is a rewarding read for crime-drama fans who want tough characters and a twisting story, but it asks a lot of your attention. Approach it with patience.
