Azuma Kazuma is not terribly clever, but he has a good heart and great skill at baking. Since childhood, he has been on a quest to create the perfect bread to represent Japan internationally. The premise is a comic sports-style story about an underdog baker who wants to put his country's bread on the world map.The strength is the enthusiasm. Kazuma's earnest passion is infectious, and the baking contests are lively and inventive. The cast of bakers is colourful and the comedy is warm. The weaknesses are about the length and the contests. The run is very long, and the contests can feel repetitive. Some comedy feels dated.Recommended for fans of food-based shonen with an underdog hero. Expect a warm, inspiring read that rewards its enthusiasm.
