Lookism

Lookism is built around a question most high school stories avoid: how much does appearance decide your place in the pecking order? Short version: a boy is bullied for his looks, and the school's social ladder becomes the backdrop for everything. The premise is sharp and the early chapters hook quickly. The art is expressive, with strong character designs that make each fight and each confrontation feel distinct. The series is at its best when it stays focused on its central tension about status and identity. The trouble comes when the cast expands. Many characters are introduced, and some arcs drift as a result. Pacing dips in long side stories, and a few threads feel stretched beyond their natural length. The tone shifts between comedy and drama, which is often effective but can feel uneven. Still, the social commentary is more pointed than most school series. For readers who enjoy stories about power and reputation, it is a strong pick.
