Lone Wolf and Cub is a legendary samurai saga whose influence is still felt across the medium. A disgraced assassin and his young son walk the road of revenge, and the story follows them through a long series of duels and encounters. The art is stark and beautifully composed, with spare layouts that give each moment room to breathe. The father-son bond is the emotional heart of the series, and the boy's quiet courage is moving. The episodic structure lets the story explore duty, honour and the cost of violence. The honest cons: the episodic structure can feel slow over such a long run, and the violence is stark and frequent, which will be hard for some readers. The pacing can drag between duels. Still, it is a powerful, unforgettable classic for fans of samurai fiction. If you want a story with real emotional weight and striking art, this is essential.
