Bakemono Recchan

Have you ever done something out of pity that backfired? Recchan is a high-school girl with a monster face who is popular among her classmates. The student council president, however, has a different view of her. The premise is a one-shot about kindness, judgement and the way a good impulse can lead somewhere uncomfortable. The strength is the compactness. The story packs its ideas into a short space without wasting a page, and its questions about pity feel honest. The emotional beats are sharp and the characters feel real. The weaknesses come from its length. Being a one-shot, it does not have much room to develop its side characters, and some reactions feel abrupt. Readers wanting a longer drama may find it brief.Recommended for readers who enjoy short, thoughtful stories about social dynamics. Expect a quick, honest read that lingers after the last page.
