This is the third part of Battle Angel Alita, a direct sequel to Last Order that also serves as a prequel for the series as a whole. For centuries, war has raged across the dusty, red surface of Mars. The premise is a big sci-fi story that broadens the franchise's scope while keeping its lead at the centre. The strength is the design. The mechanical bodies, the battlefields and the ruined cities are vivid and detailed. The action is intense and well staged, and the story has a sense of history that rewards returning readers. The weaknesses are about the start. Exposition can be heavy, and violence is frequent. Readers new to the franchise may find it easier to start with an earlier volume.Recommended for fans of the franchise and cyberpunk action alike. Expect a brutal, expansive read with striking visuals.
