Winter Woods

A few thousand years have passed since an alchemist created Winter. Winter begins living with Jane, a writer, in exchange for telling stories. That premise is strange and intriguing, and the series builds its mood on a relationship of trade and curiosity between a being out of time and a woman who writes for a living. The strength is the atmosphere. The full-colour art gives the world a moody, lingering texture, and the uneasy closeness between the two leads is compelling. The psychological edge keeps the tone tense. The weaknesses are clear. The pacing can feel slow, and some emotional beats are heavy. Readers wanting a faster story may find it patient to the point of stillness.Recommended for readers who like moody, adult fantasy with an unusual relationship at its heart. Expect a slow, atmospheric read.
