Ojojojo

Mara here. A four-panel comedy about loneliness might sound odd, but this one is warm underneath the deadpan. The heroine is rich, famous and friendless, and her cold, stuck-up exterior keeps pushing people away wherever she goes. Then she meets someone who matches her wit, and the story starts to feel like a quiet friendship in progress. The humour is the highlight. The deadpan rhythm lands well, and the four-panel format gives each joke a crisp, tidy shape. The friendship at the centre is endearing, and it's easy to smile at the small details of school life. The format has limits. Four-panel gags can feel repetitive across a long run, and there is not much room for deeper character development. Ongoing jokes sometimes stall, and the supporting cast is more backdrop than presence. Still, it's a gentle, pleasant read, and good company for anyone who appreciates understated humour and a friendship that grows slowly.
