Clockwork Planet

Naoto is a high-school dropout and a brilliant amateur tinkerer. He lives in a world that has been so over-exploited that the entire surface has become one vast machine. The premise is a fantasy-sci-fi story about invention, ingenuity and a clockwork world that is slowly breaking down. The strength is the concept. The idea of a world that is itself a machine is striking, and Naoto's inventive mind gives the story a lively engine. The mechanical ideas are clever and the tone is warm. The weaknesses are about density. The technical concepts can be dense for some readers, and the pace varies across arcs. Readers who dislike technical detail may find some parts heavy.Recommended for readers who enjoy inventive fantasy-sci-fi. Expect a clever, warm read that rewards curiosity.
