Masterless samurai Akitsu Masanosuke is a skilled and loyal swordsman, but his naive, diffident nature has more than once got him dismissed by the lords who hired him. That premise is grounded and thoughtful, and the series is built on the way a good man keeps getting caught in the cracks of a changing world. The strength is the restraint. The action is precise and purposeful, and the friendship between the leads is warm and understated. Historical detail feels lived-in, and the emotional beats land quietly. The weaknesses are clear. The pace is slow and deliberate, and some episodes feel loosely connected. Readers who want constant action may find it measured.Recommended for readers who like thoughtful samurai drama with a quiet heart. Expect a patient, rewarding read.
