NO. 5 is a science-fiction thriller set in a powerfully imagined multicultural future landscape that resembles the current Middle East. That setting is striking from the first page, and the series builds its tension on a search for identity in a world shaped by power. The premise is thoughtful and carefully constructed. The strength is the world. The detail is rich, and the story treats its politics with real thought. The thriller beats are clear, and the tone is melancholy and reflective. The weaknesses are clear. The pace is deliberate, and the political backdrop can feel dense for readers new to the setting. Readers wanting fast action may find it measured.Recommended for readers who enjoy thoughtful, atmospheric science fiction. Expect a patient, rewarding read.
