High-school student Sawako is caught in a compromising situation. As a result, the other students bully and ostracise her until she feels she has no way out. The premise is a school drama about how quickly a rumour can destroy a life, and how isolated a person can feel when everyone turns away. The strength is the honesty. The story does not look away from the cruelty of its setting, and Sawako's pain is portrayed with sympathy. The focus on the social mechanics of bullying gives the series a sharp, uncomfortable power. The weaknesses are obvious. The themes are very heavy, and the short run means the story has little room to explore recovery. Readers who need a lighter tone should approach with care.Recommended for readers who want serious, honest drama about bullying. Expect a painful, short read that stays with you.
