Third grader Yuki lives in two worlds. In one he is a loner, ridiculed by classmates and scolded by teachers for telling stories about supernatural beings only he can see. In the other, those beings fight for power against malevolent spirits. The premise is a quiet, unsettling blend of childhood and the uncanny, and it lingers. The atmosphere is the strongest part. Taiyo Matsumoto's art is distinctive and textured, with a dreamy quality that suits the story's ambiguity. The series takes a child's imagination seriously, and its quieter moments carry real weight. The weaknesses are clear. The meditative pace may test readers who want a faster hook, and the short run leaves some threads open. The ambiguity can be frustrating if you want clear answers.Recommended for readers who like thoughtful, eerie stories about childhood and the supernatural. Enjoy the mood and the questions.
