It is not easy being beautiful, and Momo learns that lesson in every page. Rumours spread by a friend and a reputation she did not ask for turn her into someone she is not. Beneath the image is a shy, lonely girl hoping to say the right thing to the boy she loves. The premise is a classic shoujo drama with real bite. The strength is the emotion. Momo's loneliness is portrayed with honesty, and the cruelty of her social world feels sharp. The melodrama is big, but it is anchored by her sincerity, which keeps it moving. The weaknesses are obvious for a series from the late nineties. The art looks dated, and the plot sometimes leans too hard on misunderstandings. Readers used to modern pacing may find it slow to reach its best moments.Recommended for fans of intense, emotional shoujo with a flawed but lovable heroine. Expect a dramatic, cathartic read that wears its heart on its sleeve.
