Michiru Kita is a weak-spirited girl who has a hard time saying what is on her mind. One day she notices mysterious, ring-like markings around the necks of two of her classmates. The premise is a horror-comedy about a deadly contract, where a shy girl is pulled into a dangerous world of debts and death. The strength is the concept. The ring marks and the contracts give the story a sharp, creepy hook, and the mix of comedy and horror keeps the tone unsettling. Michiru's growth from timid to brave is satisfying. The weaknesses are about violence and structure. The violence is frequent, and the plot can feel chaotic as the contracts multiply. Readers wary of gore should approach with care.Recommended for fans of dark, inventive horror. Expect a grim, bizarre read that is best enjoyed with a strong stomach.
