In the spring of my third year of middle school, I found Shibata buried beneath a sakura tree. That opening is unsettling and strange, and the series builds its friendship on the odd, intimate bond that follows. The premise is a quiet horror drama about what it means to be close to someone who is not quite what they seem. The strength is the mood. The eerie atmosphere builds slowly, and the friendship feels sincere even as the unease grows. The narration gives the story a personal, confessional tone. The weaknesses are clear. Body-horror imagery can be intense, and the pace is slow and ambiguous. Readers wanting clear answers may find the story frustrating.Recommended for readers who enjoy quiet, unsettling horror with an intimate heart. Expect graphic imagery and a slow, uncanny build.
