When the King of Hiden sends thirteen heroes to vanquish Clevatess, the powerful King of Dark Beasts dwelling on Luna Mountain, the greatest question is whether the heroes are actually heroes at all. That moral grey zone is the hook, and the series makes its anti-hero premise a serious study of power and cruelty. The strength is the moral complexity. The beast king is more than a simple villain, and the heroes' motives are shaded. The battles carry real weight. The weaknesses are clear. The dark tone can be draining, and the series is still releasing, so its arc is early. Readers wanting clean heroism may find the tone unsettling.Recommended for fans of dark fantasy with a morally complicated cast. Expect a grim, shaded ride.
