Mercedia Sasha has it all: looks, wealth and status. No man is good enough for her, and she makes sure everyone knows it. That premise is a proud, witty hook, and the series builds its engine on a woman who turns her arranged-marriage situation into a battle of wits. The full-colour court is her playground. The strength is the wit. Mercedia's sharp tongue and scheming make the chapters fun, and the courtly world is lush and detailed. The weaknesses are clear. The revenge plot can feel repetitive, and the romance is secondary to the schemes. Readers wanting warmth may find her cold.Recommended for fans of witty courtly romance with a sharp heroine. Expect a sharp, playful ride. Its quieter moments reward readers who give it time.
