The summer of freshman year, a boy runs away from his island home and goes to Tokyo, where he spends every day in loneliness. That sets up a story about a young person searching for a place to belong in a huge, indifferent city. The premise is quiet, but the setting is full of rain, and the series is built on that mood. The strength is the atmosphere. The rain-soaked city feels alive, and the art gives weather a strong emotional presence. The romance is tender and hopeful, and the story trusts its readers to feel the loneliness and the warmth together. The weaknesses are clear. Some plot beats are slight, and the short run limits how deeply the supporting cast can develop. Readers who want big twists may find the story gentle.Recommended for readers who like lonely city stories with a hopeful, romantic heart. Expect rain, longing and a lot of warmth.
