Ran the Peerless Beauty

Mara here. A girl so stylish and high-achieving that no boy in school would dare approach her sounds like a comedy setup, and the story does lean on that. Ran is the mountaintop flower of her class, and the one boy who refuses to be intimidated is Akira. Their dynamic is the story's engine. The strength is the innocence. The tone is gentle, and the awkward early moments between the two are sweet rather than cruel. Ran's self-assurance gives the story its personality, and the school setting grounds the romance in everyday life. The limitation is familiarity. The untouchable beauty and the persistent admirer is a well-worn path, and the drama stays mild, which may leave readers wanting more pull. The supporting cast is light. Still, it is a warm, unhurried romance that suits readers who like coming-of-age stories with a soft heart. It isn't ambitious, but it's comfortable company.
