Classroom of the Elite: Horikita

Horikita Suzune wants nothing to do with her annoying classmates. All she wants is her distant older brother, the student council president, to acknowledge her presence. The premise is a school drama about a proud, isolated girl who longs for family recognition and finds herself drawn into the social games of her class. The strength is Horikita. Her prickly pride and her hidden vulnerability make her compelling, and the school setting is full of clever social manoeuvres. The tension between her image and her needs is well drawn. The weaknesses are about the pace. The early chapters move slowly, and some side characters are thin. Readers wanting a faster story may find it measured.Recommended for fans of clever school dramas with a prickly lead. Expect a sharp, slow-building read that rewards attention.
